FAQs
FAQs
How does the library work?
We have a wide array of styles and sizes of carriers available to try on and borrow! Come to a meeting to see a selection of what we have available, or browse the full library here (insert link to myturn)
How much does it cost?
Our meetings are open to the public and free to attend. If you want to borrow a carrier from the lending library, then you can purchase a 1 month trial membership for $10, or become a full member for $30, annually.
What happens at a meeting?
Carriers are checked in and checked out and volunteer educators are available provide fit checks and other education and assistance, both with library carriers and with your own carriers from home.
Do I need to stay the whole time?
We know how busy being a caregiver can be and everyone is welcome to drop in at any time during our meetings and leave as needed. We encourage caregivers to hang out and try to find community when they have the space for it but recognize that isn't always possible.
Can I come to a meeting if my baby hasn't been born yet?
Yes! In fact, we recommend it! You can practice with our weighted dolls and build some skills so that you're ready to go when baby arrives!
Can I leave my baby at home?
Yes! If you're not able to bring your baby to a meeting, or simply prefer not to, you can try on the carriers with one of our weighted dolls.
Can my partner/parents/big kids/nanny come to the meeting too?
Yes! All are welcome.
Where are the meetings held?
Our current meeting locations are as follows: St. Charles - 1423 N 2nd St, Tower Grove - Southwest corner of Tower Grove Park, between the "New Comfort Station" and the picnic area, and West County - Vineyard Community Church, 2154 Dougherty Ferry Rd
Can I donate a carrier?
Yes! Donated carriers may be added to our lending library, used for fundraising in one of our carrier sales, or re-donated to another individual or organization.
I can't come to a meeting, can I still get help?
Yes! You can post in or private Facebook Group, message the page on Facebook or Instagram, or send us an email! We can even set up a time for one of our Educators to video chat with you!
Can you help me with a carrier I already own?
Yes, we encourage you to bring any carriers you already own with you when you come to a meeting.
How do I become a Babywearing Educator?
We offer hands-on training for volunteers who are interested in becoming educators.
I'd like to volunteer but I'm new to this - can I still help?
Absolutely! Helping people sign in when they arrive at a meeting, helping check carriers in and out of the library, and transporting the library bags between meetings are all things a new volunteer can help with right away.
My baby has medical concerns - can I still babywear?
Most likely! Individual circumstances may very and it is best to clear it with your child's medical team, but there is almost always a safe way to wear your baby.
Is babywearing bad for baby's hips?
No, and there are plenty of studies to prove it.
I had a C-section, can I still babywear?
Yes! Most likely for short intervals at first, as rest and recovery are key, but almost all newborn carrier options would sit well above the incision area.
Does my baby hate to be worn?
Probably not! A fit check and a few quick adjustments can often make a huge difference!
Does babywearing have to hurt?
No! Individual circumstances or pre-existing conditions may come into play, but for the vast majority of people a correct and comfortable fit is attainable.
